Choose the format before the finish
| Format | Planning question | Check before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed wall rack | Will it stay in this position? | Wall, fixings and full projection |
| Folding rack | Is the space needed when empty? | Both open and folded dimensions |
| Freestanding stand | Can floor space stay dedicated to tack? | Footprint, stability and lifting route |
| Portable rack | Where will it attach at each destination? | Compatibility and the maker's intended use |
Start with your room and routine. A folding model only releases space when the saddle is elsewhere. A freestanding model avoids a wall fixing but still needs a clear floor position. Neither answer is automatically better for every yard.
Two maker-stated examples
Stubbs lists the S17 Standard Saddle Rack as 25 cm wide, 27 cm high and projecting 54 cm. Its S18 Folding Saddle Rack is listed as 15 cm wide, 43 cm high and projecting 58 cm. These are rack dimensions, not the width of a saddle placed on top. The narrower rack does not mean saddles can be lined up 15 cm apart.
Use the tack room planner for an initial comparison, then check the actual saddle envelope and access. A paper outline on the wall is a useful way to compare positions before asking an installer to approve a fixing.
Questions for the supplier
Ask whether the model is intended for your saddle type, what hardware is included, what the fixing instructions require and whether any load limit is stated. A missing load rating is unknown information. Do not infer one from appearance, product weight or another model in the range.
